The neighborhoods around Traverse City are just as varied as the reasons for residing here. The Downtown neighborhoods have beautiful tree-lined streets and residents enjoy a quick walk to many restaurants, retail shops, and professional offices. Each of the various downtown neighborhoods have a bit of their own character.
At the base of Old Mission Peninsula, residents are within easy walking distance to Northwestern Michigan College, a public high school and elementary school. Further out Old Mission Peninsula, neighborhoods often offer shared waterfront access on East or West Grand Traverse Bay.
About six miles east of downtown along the Traverse Area Recreation Trail is the hilly and wooded Holiday Hills neighborhood. Its residents enjoy easy access to the VASA hiking, biking, and Nordic ski trails, as well as Mt Holiday, a downhill ski area.
